Google Android 2.3 Gingerbread Successfully Ported To Nokia N900

While native Android OS devices are still waiting for the newest Android 2.3 Gingerbread update port, a developer who goes by handle "drunkdebugger" at NITDROID forums has achieved success in porting Android 2.3 Gingerbread on Nokia N900.
Project NITDROID aims to develop a stable and working port of Android OS for the Nokia Internet Tablets (N8x0 and N900) and an automatic installer for Android 2.2 on Nokia N900 is already under active development and is used by many. Since, Nokia N900 Maemo OS and Google Android share the same Linux love under the hood developers are able to achieve this success this early and easily.

Redsn0w 0.9.7 Beta 2 Download Released By iPhone Dev Team Enabling iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak

iPhone Dev Team is once again in the news for posting a much-awaited update to theirredsn0w iOS jail-breaking utility, the latest redsn0w 0.9.7 Beta 2 release is strictly for testers fulfilling the promised untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch running iOS 4.2.1.

Remember the following before using this :

• This is a TESTING BETA RELEASE, Do not use if you are not sure what you are doing.
• Strictly a NO if you rely on ultrasn0w carrier-unlock.
• This is currently a MAC Only release.
• If you have an iPhone 3G/old-bootrom ipt2g/iPhone 3GS, you already have an untethered jailbreak and don't need this - just use the latest public final version of redsn0w.
• Right now, using this new redsn0w untethered jailbreak “backup plan” requires that you have the 4.2b3 IPSW on your Mac, and that Cydia has your 4.2b3 SHSH hashes. Please don’t pirate that 4.2b3 IPSW! (We’re also working on a way that this technique might apply to all those with 4.1 IPSWs, but that’s not the first goal right now.)

Update #1: We’re about to release the first beta using this new “backup method”, which redsn0w calls “Jailbreak Monte”. Here are some important points:

# This is a beta tester program. It’s not a general release! Things can go very wrong, so please don’t even consider testing if you have pictures or other media on your device that you haven’t backed up!

# For the same reason, please don’t participate if you rely on the ultrasn0w carrier unlock. Wait for the final version!

# Until we fix some sandbox issues with bluetooth, the bluetooth functionality is disabled.

# This very first beta1 is limited to iPhone4, iPad, and iPod touch 4G.

# Cydia must have your 4.2b3 SHSH blobs saved on file. (As we approach a general release, we’ll provide a way to let you use locally saved hashes too).

# You must already have the usbmuxd software installed and running on your Mac (this requirement will eventually go away too). The correct invocation of the relay is just as that page says: “./tcprelay.py -t 22:2222”. If the relay isn’t installed or running correctly by the time the redsn0w ramdisk has started, you’ll need to restore to stock FW again to try it again. Please test it beforehand to save yourself some time!

# iPod player only works on ipt4g right now

# Bluetooth currently disabled due to sandbox problem

Update #2: The second beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). This version should fix all the native app crashes (including Task switcher). That’s the only change in from beta1….Bluetooth is still disabled. If you had trouble using the usbmuxd in beta1, please wait until we incorporate that into redsn0w itself (i.e. don’t bother trying this beta2, just wait for the integration).

How To Jailbreak And Unlock An iPhone 3G Stuck At Modem 05.14.02 Running iOS Firmware 4.1

If you are one of the unlucky few who rely on an carrier-unlock for iPhone 3G and accidentally updated toiOS 4.1 upgrading your baseband (modem) to v 05.14.02 which is not unlockable, here is a method to let you upgrade your baseband to one of iPad 06.15.00 which is fortunately still vulnerable and will allow us to unlock using ultrasn0w.

In this comprehensive step-by-step illustrated guide we will walk-trough the complete process of jail-breaking and unlocking an iPhone 3G running iOS 4.1 having modem version 05.14.02.

Before we proceed here is the warning issues by iPhone Dev Team regarding this particular iPad baseband hack :

WARNING — YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15.

* There is no way to come back down from 06.15, and there’s no hiding the baseband version from Apple. You’ll be voiding your warranty in a very obvious way.

* If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway).

* Starting with FW 4.2.1 if you have 06.15 on your iPhone you won’t ever be able to restore to stock firmware (it will fail). You’ll need to only restore to custom IPSWs (then again, if you’re unlocker you should already be doing that).

Unlockers have been reporting mixed results about GPS functionality at 06.15.00. Until we can track down what differentiates those who retain GPS vs. those who lose it, be conservative and assume you’ll lose GPS at 06.15.00. As we work on finding the cause (and possibly a fix), please report your personal findings in our comments section. (Update: early indications are that while 06.15.00 is capable of GPS, it will require some further hacks. But please still be conservative and assume you will lose GPS at 06.15, in case the hacks don’t work).

Certainly don’t update to 06.15 if you don’t need to! Only do this if you need the unlock and you’re stuck on 05.14 or 05.15, and you’re willing to assume the above risks.

Follow the instructions below to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3G with Modem v 05.14.02 on iOS Firmware 4.1 :

We will require these two downloads to get things completed :

• redsn0w 0.9.6b6
• iPhone 3G 4.1 IPSW Restore File (iPhone1,2_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw)

iPhone 3G iOS 4.1 Jail-breaking Process :

1. Connect your iPhone 3G to computer and launch redsn0w.exe, click the Browse button pointing it toiPhone1,2_4.1_8B117_Restore.ipsw file.

2. Click Next and let redsn0w.exe complete the extraction process.

3. Now you will be shown a screen as below, pay attention to this step carefully - you need to select "Install Cydia" and "Install iPad Baseband" check-boxes agreeing to the warning.

4. You will now be prompted to switch-off your device and enter in DFU mode, pay attention to onscreen instructions and proceed.

5. redsn0w will fetch the iPad baseband files and proceed with flashing, make sure you do not disconnect the cable/device.

6. The rest of jailbreaking process take place on your device, as shown below - just sit-back and let it complete (do not unplug your cable to be on the safe side).

7. Once the above process is completed your phone will reboot and should be jailbroken with Cydiainstalled on it. You can check the baseband/modem (Settings-> General -> About) and it should now be 06.15.00.

8. Since we have now successfully flashed unlockable iPad Baseband 06.15.00 to our iPhone 3G we can now unlock using ultrasn0w as demoed next.

iPhone 3G iOS 4.1 Unlocking Process :

1. Start Cydia on your device with a working internet connection and let it update everything. Once done restart Cydia and goto Manage tab, now tap on Sources button.

2. Tap repo666.ultrasn0w.com.

3. Tap ultrasn0w and complete the install.

4. Your iPhone 3G should now be unlocked after an reboot.
